ABOUT kintsugi

IMG_0494.JPG

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese craft of restoring 'broken' ceramics. Unlike most restoration / conservation techniques, kintsugi works towards highlighting the traces of brokenness. Embracing all its history.

Using only natural materials such as

urushi 옻,

wheat flour 밀가루,

clay powder 황토,

cotton powder 솜,

wooden powder 목분,

gold / silver / brass / tin 금 / 은 / 황동 / 주석

Once restored, the ceramic / glass / wood / stone objects may be used as functional tableware.

Hon Kintsugi (本金継ぎ) 혼킨츠기

.

Modern Kintsugi (簡易金継ぎ) 간이킨츠기

Carries the same value as Hon kintsugi, but replaces traditional urushi (tree sap lacquer) with modern adhesives.

A beginner friendly method that ensures no safety hazards.

However, not fully functional to be used as tableware.
